Charline Bethea, Registered Nurse

Charline has been in nursing for 16 years, most of her career having been in hospitals. She started working in home health in 2009 and has been with LHC Group since 2010. Charline wanted to try a different aspect of nursing that allowed more flexibility with her time and that allowed her to interact with patients even more. She started out as the regional/on-call nurse for the Westminster branch, a position that she held for two years. She then switched to a case management position for the Baltimore branch which she has currently held for the past three years. Charline also serves as a preceptor for new hires.

Charline has received various recognitions in her personal and professional career. She is also proud to have received numerous thank you letters from patients and their family members regarding her quality of care. While working in the last hospital setting, she was a part of the Sunflower Campaign in which she was acknowledged by her co-workers as being a sunflower (one who performed an “above and beyond” act) and was one among 50 nominees to be recognized. This honor included being featured in television commercials and being displayed on a billboard in Towson Circle. Charline also works as a nurse at her local church and is planning to put on a health fair this summer for the community.

My daily inspiration first comes from God and my love for people. I have always had a love for people – and what better way to serve people than by helping them to heal. I work in health care because from a child, I have always had an interest in health and the human body. Actually, I always wanted to be a doctor. After going to college and getting started, I was introduced to nursing by one of my college friends and I quickly changed my mind and my major. It was the best decision I ever made. I can’t see myself doing any other career outside of being a nurse. I feel that I was born to do this. It is truly a gift of compassion that comes with being a nurse and I like to try to share that gift everywhere I go.

Shirelle R. Peterson, Office Manager

After the birth of her eldest son, Shirelle needed employment. She was informed of an open position at a local homecare agency. She was hired on the spot and her career in health care began.  Shirelle stayed with that homecare agency 10 years then worked worked briefly for a DME/HME company. She joined HomeCall in 2000. Shirelle has held various positions throughout her career in health care from Billing Clerk, Intake Coordinator, Scheduling Coordinator & Office Manager.  She has been the Office Manager at HomeCall for the past five years.

Health care is my passion because I love to help others in any capacity that I can. I have a generous spirit, which extends from my family, my work family and all that I encounter. I believe in service – service to our external customers, which are our patients, referrals sources and physicians, service to our internal customers, which are my coworkers and other departments throughout the organization. The best opportunity for me to be of service on a daily basis is working in health care.

Amber Morrison, RN, Team Leader

Amber worked for 25 years as an ER nurse. She worked for three years in home health in the 1990s and five years in home infusion therapy. She then returned to home health with a desire to provide quality care to patients within their homes. She has worked with HomeCall for about two years.

I enjoy providing quality, compassionate care to patients, while assisting their families. I am passionate about working in health care because I enjoy helping others, and I want to help patients maintain their quality of life.

Diana Choi, RN, BSN, MSN, Director of Nursing/Medicare Administrator

Diana transitioned from a critical care/trauma nurse to a home care nurse after recognizing that she could make a positive and lasting impact on patients in their homes. She quickly realized her passion for home care and transitioned from a PRN to a full-time position as an RN case manager. In her second year with HomeCall, Diana became the regional clinical educator until accepting a position as the director of nursing/medicare administrator for the Baltimore City branch. Throughout this time, Diana has continued to serve as an adjunct professor of Nursing at a local community college.

Diana holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Stevenson University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Frostburg State University. Due to her background in education, she remains passionate about educating staff to grow their foundation of knowledge in order to positively impact patient outcomes.

Meet Our Team

Debbie Reeder, RN, COS-C, Branch Manager

Debbie has been a Registered Nurse for 20 years, serving in the home health and hospice setting for 12 years, long-term acute care setting for eight years and management for 14 years. Debbie received her Master in Nursing Administration from Wilmington University in Newark, Delaware. She also has an AA degree in Business Management. Debbie was a member and on the Board of Directors for the Hospice and Palliative Care Network of Maryland from 2004-2014 where she served as treasurer from 2009-2014. She was recognized for the “You make a Difference Award” in 2006 by the Hospice Network of Maryland. Debbie is also a certified OASIS specialist.

Once my children were school aged, I decided to return to school to become what I always wanted to be, a nurse in the geriatric field. My mother and aunt were both nurses, so I was very familiar with the profession. My grandparents lived with us while I was a teenager and my parents were older when I was born. So, I have always been exposed to my elders and a generation or two older than I, and enjoy their company, experiences, wisdom and conversation. I want our senior population to have the best care possible and be able to remain in their home where they are comfortable and with their family.

What motivates me to work for HomeCall is the support from my peers, supervisors and home office. I love working for an organization that home health is what they do every day. I also want the residents in my rural community to have quality health care.

It is the best feeling when you get a call from a patient and they tell you how much your staff helped them recover and how great they were.

HomeCall Frederick Group Picture.jpg

Abbie Haws, RN, RN Team Leader

Abbie has spent many years in health care. At the age of 20, she worked with her local ambulance service, then later started nursing school. Abbie was an LPN for nine years, and has been an RN for 18 years. She went back for her RN and did a clinical rotation with home health, which was the reason she decided to pursue RN in the first place. She was hired fulltime by the same home health company upon completion of her nursing degree. Abbie moved from Georgia to Maryland, following her daughter and grandson. She has 11 years of home health experience working in areas ranging from field nursing to Director of Operations. She is a fairly new but highly respected employee to HomeCall, starting in November 2014.

I love using the knowledge and skills I have learned over the years to help people in need.

Janet Arnold, Office Manager

Since joining the company in 1976, Janet has worked in various capacities.  She worked in the corporate office from 1976 until 2009.  She has seen the company grow from an office in Frederick, Maryland to offices throughout Maryland and Virginia and from a privately held company to public.

I left a job with the government to take care of a sick family member. When I went back to work, I wanted to do something that mattered to me. A doctor was starting a home health company in Frederick, and it sounded like what I was looking for. Home health care was a new concept in 1974, when HomeCall was established. There were many road blocks in communities where we were expanding. Doctors and the general public couldn’t imagine getting skilled care (skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical social work and home health aides) in their home.

I transferred to the Frederick Branch office in 2009. I enjoy being in a branch office, interacting with the clinical staff and patients daily and knowing how much we are helping people in the community.

Helping people and keeping them at home where they are most comfortable and can get well sooner, has been my inspiration and what drives me daily.

Kellie Curry, Branch Manager

Kellie graduated with her physical therapy degree in 1986 from Texas Tech University Health Care Center. She has worked in almost every area of health care in her career. Her first managerial position was in 1988 where she was the Rehabilitation Director for the home health branch she was working for at the time. From there, she became the Rehabilitation Manager for two acute care hospitals in Southern California. Kellie then moved and was the Rehabilitation Director for a group of ALF/SNF organizations in Northern California. She went to St. Mary’s University while living in Northern California and received her MBA. Kellie then relocated to Maryland where she started working for HomeCall in 2000 as the Branch Manager of the Frederick location and has continued in this role for the last 15 years.

I have always wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I enjoy caring for people and trying to make their lives better. When I was young, I had a traumatic accident that could have taken away my ability to use my right hand away. After surgery, I was sent to a physical therapist to work on the mobility in my right hand and wrist. I was able to regain all my strength and mobility much to the doctor’s surprise. This inspired me to become a physical therapist so that I could help others as I was helped. As a physical therapist, I have been able to help people become more independent and feel better about themselves because they are less dependent on others. This is very rewarding. As a branch manager, I’ve been able to translate that feeling into a much larger group of people by ensuring that quality care is provided by all the clinicians in my branch.

Kimberly Maynard, Team Leader

Kimberly has worked in a variety of healthcare settings in many capacities. She has worked in nursing homes as a CNA, staff nurse and assistant DON. She has worked in med-surg as a CNA, staff nurse and charge nurse. Kimberly has also worked in school health, critical care, emergency department, home care intake and home care. She worked in central intake in 1997 for a year and moved into the Team Leader position in March 2013.

Kimberly graduated with her BSN in 1990, her MBA in 1996 and her MSN in 2010. She is currently working on her DNP. She recently earned her HCS-D and HCS-O. Kimberly also has her Parrish Nurse certification. Previously, she has been a CPR and First Aid instructor and an EMT.

My mom is a retired nurse, and I have always wanted to be a nurse ever since I can remember. I love to help people. I work in health care because I am a people person and love to help others. Health care is constantly evolving; there is always so much to learn. You learn from each other, from patients, and from professional resources. Everyone has a story and loves to tell it. Helping others is my passion.

(Mary) Phyllis Green, BSN, RN, CWOCN

From 1974 to 1985, Mary was a Visiting Nurse in Adams County, Pa. From 1985 to date, she has been a Home Health Nurse for HomeCall. She was drawn to home health care since her clinicals at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, so she became a home health nurse after graduation. In 2000, she attended Wicks Educational Associates to become a Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (WOCN) and has worked in that capacity visiting patients throughout Maryland with wound, ostomy, and continence issues as well as supporting and educating staff in these areas to provide best practice care to this patient population.

Mary has received several recognitions and accolades in her career. She has been the Employee of the Month for the Frederick Office and Employee of the Year for HomeCall, past Maryland-National Capital Home Health Nurse of the Year, as well as a nominee for Nurse of Distinction, Northeast Region, WOCN. Mary was featured in Ostomy Wound Management magazine's, June 2015 issue, My Scope of Practice. She organized a WOCN exchange trip to Heidelberg, Germany in 2009.  The highlight for Mary was a joint wound care symposium with the Heidelberg wound care nurses for the Heidelberg University Hospital staff. She participated in a People to People WOCN trip to Russia, and she is the author of “Comparing US and German Healthcare”, published in WCET magazine.

Once you determine what your vocation is – not your job or career – the rest is easy and falls into place. My vocation, home health nursing, developed into a special niche: wound, ostomy and continence care. It has always been rewarding to help people stay in their homes, and it is especially gratifying to help patients cope with problems related to these issues. Whether it is healing wounds, teaching someone to put on an ostomy appliance that no longer leaks or reversing incontinence, the end result is an improvement in health and quality of life for patients and their families. It is a special gift to be part of that process. No matter how difficult the patient’s situation is, I try to remember that I have the easy job; I get to walk out the door. I admire patients for how they cope with and endure their diagnoses and treatments, and I am always inspired by the loving caregivers who stand by and support them. My appreciation for caregivers deepened when I was on the other side of home health care and hospice the past few years taking care of ill family members. It helped me realize more personally the impact of coping with illness at home. It is much easier to be on the giving end, and I’m honored to provide care.

Rebecca L. Graves, RN, BSN, Director of Nursing

At the age of 16, during a hospital volunteer experience, Rebecca realized that she wanted to become a nurse. While watching a nurse at a patient’s bedside – holding their hand and being there for them around the clock – she felt called to become a nurse. Currently, Rebecca has been an RN for 26 years.

Rebecca originally graduated from Modesto Junior College with an ADN in 1991. She went back to school and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013 from the University of Texas, Arlington. She spent the first 12 years of her career working in the ICU and the Emergency Department. She worked in a variety of healthcare settings such as maternal health, urgent care, and mental health. She obtained management experience while working in an acute inpatient psychiatric facility in 2005. She remained there for eight years before starting in home health. In 2015, Rebecca began working at HomeCall in Hagerstown, MD as the branch manager and a couple of months later accepted the director of nursing position for the Frederick provider which includes the Frederick, Hagerstown, and Rockville branches.

There is no greater satisfaction than hearing from a patient or family member about the great care they received from our compassionate staff. The outcomes may not be what they expected, but the caring people from our agency made a difference anyway. Challenges are opportunities, and there is certainly never a shortage of these in health care. The nursing staff and therapists truly inspire me. I enjoy hearing their tales of triumphs and pitfalls, and it drives me to stay engaged in their lives and those we all serve.

Melinda Patton, RN Team Leader

Melinda started her health care career as a candy striper when she was in high school, which gave her a taste for helping and serving the sick and elderly. After she became an RN, she worked nine years in hospitals in med-surg and telemetry, three years in an Oncology/Hematology physician's office and five years doing public health and home health. She has been with HomeCall since 2002.

I became a nurse to help people and that is still what brings me to work everyday. In a leadership position, that applies to my coworkers, the field staff and the patients we all care for.

Manolo Carlos, Doctor of Physical Therapy

Manolo graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines in 1997. After moving to the United States and becoming licensed in Colorado, Indiana, Maryland and Washington, D.C., he enrolled at Shenandoah University, Winchester and graduated in 2011 with a Doctor in Physical Therapy.

During his career, he has worked in various settings as a physical therapist. These settings include nursing homes, school systems, Orthopedic Outpatient Clinics and home health organizations. Manolo started working part time with HomeCall while finishing his Doctorate and has been employed on a full time basis since 2011.

My decision to become a physical therapist was a result of having gone through therapy myself after a vehicular-related injury. I was very impressed by my therapist and her knowledge and saw the opportunity to help people overcome injuries and improve their overall health. I enjoy working directly with individuals and seeing an improvement in their every day life.

Lucille “Debbie” La Scola, RN, BSN, Branch Manager

Debbie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Notre Dame University of Baltimore in 1989 and her MAS from John Hopkins University in 1992. Her nursing career began in the hospital setting in various specialties. She has worked for HomeCall for over 17 years.

I enjoy working at HomeCall as it provides me the opportunity to be a part of a great team whose sole goal is to improve our patients’ health and quality of life in an environment in which they are comfortable. Our patients honor us with their trust as we care for them in their homes.

Erica Delaney, RN, BSN, Team Leader

Erica is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She has been a nurse for over 13 years. Her nursing career began in home care in the late 90s as a home health aide. She obtained her LPN in 2004. Then after working in home care for 6 years, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio in 2012. In addition to being a home care nurse, she has been a transplant nurse, pediatric nurse, community health nurse as well as a clinical operations director. Erica relocated to Maryland in August of 2015 and joined the HomeCall as a team leader.

I knew that Nursing was my calling from a young ag. My goal was to be the kind of nurse who makes a difference in her community – a nurse who touches the lives of the patients she serves through providing quality patient focused care. I obtained my goal during my years working in the field. I work in healthcare to make a difference in the lives of others. Although it can be extremely challenging, I truly couldn’t see myself working in any other field.

Nicole Ellis, Office Manager

Nicole joined HomeCall in 2015 as an office assistant and was promoted to office manager later that year.

I enjoy the fast-paced environment that allows me the opportunity to never experience the same day twice. I also feel extremely fortunate to work with dedicated, passionate people that have a positive impact on our patients’ lives.

Chin Yoon, Doctor of Physical Therapy

Chin had a unique experience that brought him into the world of therapy. After being involved in a car accident where he suffered multiple herniated disks with severe neutral symptoms, he was disabled for seven months and was advised that he would require surgery for any hope of recovery. Refusing to undergo surgery, Chin sought out various practitioners, but nothing seemed to work. He received encouragement and a unique tailoring of exercises from his physical therapist. He was touched by her genuine concern and passion to help him get his life back. The progress was slow with recovery, but Chin got better with therapy, making him a believer. He was working in advertising and as a personal trainer but was forced to quit his job due to the injury. Chin took the opportunity during his time off to re-evaluate his career. He was driven to help others and took the plunge of getting another degree and changing his career to become a therapist. Chin was awarded as Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2012 and is the winner of a book scholarship. He was recognized for exceeding productivity goals at various settings and patient satisfaction. He was also the primary therapist for a managed service agreement with pain clinic.

I have worked in various settings including outpatient, managed service agreement with pain clinic, nursing home, and home care. I am attracted by the individual time I get to spend with my patients in home care as well as the creativity challenge it presents.

What seemed to be the worst incident turned out to be a blessing in disguise and revealed what was to be my calling. Having been at the patient’s end helps me to understand the problems facing a patient. I love the challenge of problem solving and tailoring the program for each unique individual. As a therapist, I get to experience a variety of roles: a coach, educator, and cheerleader. I am driven by the unique opportunity presented as a therapist to impact a patient’s life. It gives me tremendous pleasure to see patients progress because it’s about maximizing their life quality, giving patients hope and equipping them with the knowledge to manage their health and functions.

I strongly believe in physical therapy education and getting to the root of the issue to resolve the underlying cause of a problem to make a lasting impact. My philosophy is teach patients to fish rather than giving them a fish.
